Ian Wallach

Ian Wallach is a trial lawyer at heart who zealously and vigorously fights for his clients while taking great pleasure in his work.  He combines his strong academic and writing skills -- polished while at a national law firm -- with the tactics learned in his many jury trials as a Deputy Public Defender and afterwards.  Ian Wallach believes it is a privilege to assist those fighting against the forces of government.

While at U.C. Hastings in 1999, Ian Wallach completed a specialized concentration in International Law, and was chosen for a clerkship with the Office of the Prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, in the Hague, where he participated in drafting the indictment of Milosevic.  He subsequently represented three Guantanamo Bay detainees in an alliance with the Center for Constitutional Rights.

He is admitted to practice in New York. Colorado, and California, and is a member of the Bar of the United States Supreme Court and many Federal District and Appellate Courts.  Ian Wallach was an associate at the prestigious New York firm of Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps.  In 2005, Ian Wallach moved from New York to California and subsequently joined the Office of the Public Defender.  He tried approximately 40 jury trials in less than two years, and established himself as an exceptional trial attorney with many  consecutive acquittals and hangs followed by dismissals.

In 2010, Ian Wallach received national attention for obtaining a settlement of $425,000 from the U.S. Government in a claim where a former inmate alleged he contracted a terminal illness due to the Government's failure to protect him from the disease during his incarceration.

That same year, Ian Wallach represented an individual accused of extorting Stevie Wonder.  The client walked out of the door early into the trial with an “earn-a-misdemeanor plea” (and even that misdemeanor will be expunged upon early completion of probation).

Ian Wallach has tried cases in state and federal courts in California and in Maryland.  He has handled thousands of criminal matters, resolving many without trials, but always willing, if not eager, to take his cases to trial -- a quality that distinguishes him from many attorneys and makes him exceptionally effective in obtaining favorable outcomes for his clients.

Most importantly, Mr. Wallach's clients continually comment on his capability and results, but also on his compassion for his clients.  He is dedicated to making sure that his clients understand the process and the options, so that they can better understand what is happening, know that no stones are left unturned, and feel confident in their decisions.  For reviews of Mr. Wallach, go to http://www.avvo.com/attorneys/90291-ca-ian-wallach-303466.html.
